I just ran out of light magenta ink in the Epson 9600. If I go to bed now I'll just lie awake lamenting the worthlessness of my logistics, inventory control, and demand forecasting focused business degree and how it allowed me to run out of ink a day ahead of schedule. So at 3:09am with "California Dreaming" playing on my Treo, I walk out of the studio to do some window shopping downtown and to find a CIBC bank machine to transfer some funds betweeen a savings and operating account for the same company. I brought the F10 with me. All photos were shot at ISO 1600 hand held.
This is the first business establishment I come across. I pass over a dozen art, furniture and antique galleries on my trip.
This hair salon knows how to put on a night time display. . . all the leaves are brown | and the sky is grey | I've been for a walk | on a winter's day | if I was in LA | California Dreamin' . . .
A light design studio. Not spectacular but it must be doing something right or have a lazy landlord/management company taking care of the space they are in cuz rent on 124th street is pretty high . . . I feel like I've been blown apart | There are pieces here | I don't know where they go . . . Merril Bainbridge - Mouth
Call 488-5060 if your place is way too exciting for you and you have a burning desire to pay someone to dull it down . . . let me take the fall | let me take the blame | let me carry you from hell to hold again . . . Assemblage 23 - Let me be your armour
One look into this store I thought I was going to have a seizure. Too much colour . . . young people speaking their minds | are getting so much resistance from behind | stop hey what's that sound | everybody look what's going down . . . Buffalo Springfield - For What It's Worth
Michelle used to live in one of these. These apartments used to be owned by some rich Jews or something. Michelle's in Quebec taking a break from Dalhousie in Halifax, NS. Her last entry in Leanna's guestbook in response to my last message to her - "I'm not in Halifax anymore, YES YES YES YES YES YES" . . . but everytime I see your face | I get all choked up inside . . . The Four Tops - I can't help myself
A slight detour to the northern lip of the river valley presented this view . . . just toss that ham in the frying pan | like Spam | I don't understand the rest of the lyrics . . . Cypress Hill - Insane in the Membrane
I just left the only Mac's in the city that has dress code . . . hey, it's a nice convenience store. Approaching 109th St. and Jasper Ave . . . I don't know why you come here | but you can't stay let's make that clear | your eyes are closed you don't speak | is it comfort that you seek | maybe we can just pretend . . . Jesse Cook - Down like Rain
Leaves are falling down like rain | you can see right through my pain | like a window to the sea . . .
I didn't really need to cross the street here but the bright walking man beckons me to follow . . . and it's falling, falling, falling | Leaves are falling down like rain | and I look to you again . . .
Open 24hours my ass! Either that or I just discovered how to get 25 hours out of my day . . . Jesse Cook - Orbit (instrumental)
I'm nearing Edmonton City Centre. Prodigy - Breathe (the words sound like lyrics . . . but they aren't)
Man, I look awful. But it's really cold out. Here begin's Enigma's Voyageur album (2003). From East to West.
Yes, that's really what it looks like.
Just when I thought I was ready to finish my mission, it turns out that CIBC doesn't have even a bank machine in Edmonton City Centre.
Though I haven't verified his claim, Hank Ellis repeats whenever we question his sexual orientation that he has these words tatooed on his bum . . . Following the sun | to find the one | who has given you the wings to fly . . .
I find CIBC's main branch . . . but the doors won't open when you swipe a bank card. Just when you thought that nothing else could go wrong . . . they do . . . following the sun | like everyone . . .
I hop down the stairs to the nearest LRT station. The plan is to go to the university area where there should be plenty of CIBC bank machines. Enigma - The Piano
It was about 5:15am by the time that I got to the station. The trains don't resume for another half hour. So I have time to unload photos from the F10 to my laptop and take a peek. So far so good.
The train comes a couple minutes after the ultra slow USB xD adapter finishes unloading my memory card from the F10 . . . I promise you | upon my life | I will always be by your side | in the shadow, in the light . . . Enigma - In the Shadow, In the Light
The familiar hallways of Hub and Business . . . I couldn't make out any of the lyrics other than "So many traces faded away . . . that's the look, that's the look, that's the look of today" . . . Enigma - Look of Today
I came across a movie poster that was either rear-reverse printed or possibly printed with a solvent inkset so that printing is visible on both sides of what appears to be uncoated white polypropylene.
It's official -there's no other major bank that cares less about its customers. No bank machines in Edmonton City Centre and the downtown branch was all locked up . . . everytime I think of you . . . Enigma - Boum-Boum
Exam time in SUB . . . My heart goes boom boom boom | everytime I think of you | inside it's boom boom boom | lost control what shall I do?
. . . Cos I wanna be your lover | Till the end of our lives | I could never miss again | These loving eyes
things are still happenin...
I've got a ton of photos to process and put into my galleries... I should have some time over christmas.
I've already got some XD cards from other cameras... so I might just take the dive and get me an F10. It looks like about the only "small" camera I could be happy with...
Then you are even closer than I was when I was about to take the plunge into this point and shoot "system". Go for it! And I don't know why you put "small" in quotation marks . . . this camera's frickin' tiny . . . the only stuff much smaller than it aren't worthy of taking photos for enlargement beyond 4x6 and don't even do ISO 400 properly, let alone 1600.
Yes, it's the low-light and wickedly low-noise ability of the F10 that got my attention... and 6 megapixels is enough to do pretty much anything from...
the trouble is Fujifilm just announced the F11, which is the same except with full manual controls (A/S/M)...
Should I wait for the F11, or go for the F10?
The F11 is a Japan-only product. I think that's pretty stupid . . . along with other silly Fuji things . . . like the GX645 which is identical to the Hasselblad H1 except for colour, and the buffer-upgraded Fuji S3 Pro. You can already order the F11 from Japan if you want. Landed cost in Canada will be probably about $550.
Turns out that the Fuji Finepix F11 is available on eBay for under $400US. Check it out if you like. Specs seem a bit different and it's beyond just manual control. If it isn't too much trouble, drop me a line if you decide to pick one up.
It would seem that the F11 just got released in Europe - it's on the FujiFim UK website... but FujiFilm won't let it go into the north american markets...
The F11 only adds aperature and shutter priority; you still don't get full manual. You do get a higher resolution LCD for previewing, and better macro performance...
I played around with my Sister's F10, it's a fun camera. If it had a full manual mode, plus maybe RAW capture, and a few extra mm's on the wide end, it would be perfect (but probably not as inexpensive!).... who knows, I might still get one for myself, if only to put my XD cards to use again... but I don't know if hunting down a F11 is worth the trouble and extra cost over the F10 which is already a pretty sweet deal.
There's already talk of the F12 being ready for Q2 2006...
On my wishlist for the F12 would be a lens that's F/2.8 all the way through or maybe even F/2 if possible, a bit shorter on the wide end (willing to sacrifice a bit on the long end but more on that end would be nice, too), use of Secure Digital memory cards, full manual and flash sync of some sort. Perhaps a higher quality lens . . . for a lens like that on the Olympus 8080 but on an F12 form factor camera with a 6MP super CCD I would happily pay about $1000-1200 for the camera . . . dead serious. Even at $2000 I might consider . . . the imager is very good and I think that the lens may be the biggest drawback of it at this time. Pixel acuity is obviously nothing like the D2X but it seems like even the D200's pixel acuity isn't quite at the level of the D2X so asking for that kind of acuity is a bit unrealistic from a P&S. And I agree, for the price, it's a very tough camera to beat.
Seems like you are on a totally different wavelength.
Picture yourself on a boat on a river/With tangerine trees and marmalade skies/Somebody calls you/You answer quite slowly/A girl with kaleidoscope eys/
I had a portable cassette player when I was much younger but it was much less than inspiring. But walking around during the day with headphones in is kind of weird. I'm using these in-ear canal headphones you can actually hear the thump as your feet hit the ground when you're walking but you can't hear passing buses. I'm still not used to it . . . constantly looking around to watch for stuff that's trying to get your attention or people trying to talk to you. But during the night it's really nice. =)
Red river, red river,
Slow flow heat is silence
No will is as still as a river
Still. Will heat move . . .

^ hahaha! one of the best songs evar.
looks like you had quite the adventure roaming around the city and even taking the transit while most of us folks were sleeping (can't believe you took a picture doing #1! lol)
shakedown 1979 / cool kids never have the time / On a live wire right up off the street / You and I should meet - SP
Hahah . . . luckily I had a full bladder. It took a long time for me to figure out how to compose the shot without getting my gigantic penis in it.
I can't sleep, something's all over me | Greasy, insomnia please release me | And let me dream about making mad love on the heath
the pee picture got me too haha. wow i am very impressed with the f10, it looks like thats what i shall look at next for a p&s. i wanted the olympus sp-350 but it got horrible ratings for start up time and shot to shot. but the f10, wow stevesdigicams liked it. and apparently a lot of people here do as well......just that freaking XD card.
LOL . . . everyone talks about the pee picture and doesn't seem to be interested in anything else. =P
I haven't tried the Olympus or looked up the specs but I'd assume that it would be using xD as well if it were a point and shoot. When you get the F10 there are a couple settings that you can change to get the highest frame rate out of the camera. Turn off shot review. Turn on high speed focus (I think that's what it is . . . uses a bit more power) and you can also turn on some strange continuous shooting mode thingie. The last setting gets disabled everytime you go and review an image though . . . kind of a pain but after a while I just stop reviewing and know that I have a good shot.
